A g. pigment or dye. Several such, derived from aniline, are used in microscopy( Iodine g., Malachite g., Methyl g.). Malachite g. is an antiseptic. Others derived from copper, especially the oxychloride( Brunswick g.) and the very poisonous aceto-arsenites( Paris g., Schweinfurth g.), are used in the arts. Paris g. often causes arsenical poisoning.
