Of or pertaining to synovia, as S. secretion; containing or secreting synovia, as S. sacs, S. bursae. S. membrane, a membrane secreting synovia, and either lining the cavities of joints( Articular s. membranes), or forming closed sacs called Bursae( q. v.), or serving as sheaths for tendons( Vaginal s. membranes, S. sheaths). They consist of a layer of endothelium placed upon a homogenous basement membrane which in turn is supported by connective tissue, the latter often containing much fat.
