The act or process of uniting or becoming united or one again; of wounds, the process of healing by which their sides are brought together and the solutions of continuity filled up. U. of wounds is said to be Primary( or by First intention) when the parts are maintained in accurate apposition and unite directly without the intervention of granulations; by Second intention when two granulating surfaces are brought into direct contact; and by Third intention( or by Granulation) when the wound granulates( see Granulation) from one side to the other.
